from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Morten Pedersen (also: Martin Petri, Ernopotamius, Grenovensis ; born November 10, 1537 in Grenaa , † June 16, 1595 in Roskilde ) was a Danish Protestant theologian, historian and astronomer.

Life

Pedersen had attended school in Aarhus and then began studying at the University of Copenhagen . He continued this on May 30, 1559 at the University of Wittenberg , where on March 8, 1562 he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy. After returning to Denmark he became theological reading master in Sorø Monastery in 1562 and abbot of the monastery in 1565 .

During that time he was mainly concerned with historical research on the personalities of Denmark. To do this, he researched a large inventory of the monastery, evaluated the memorial plaques of the monastery and wrote a calendar containing the basic data of Danish history (Biskop Absalons og Mr. Esbern Snares ...) . Paul Ebers Calendarium historicum , whom he met personally and during his work in Wittenberg, was probably the model for the work .

After he became pastor at the cathedral in Roskilde in 1572 and canon there in 1582, he mainly dealt with astronomical considerations. So he wrote a book about a comet (no longer verifiable today) and dealt with the Stella Nova by Tycho Brahe . On May 31, 1573 he married Dorothe († March 27, 1599 in Roskilde), the daughter of the mayor of Kolding Sören Kjaer.
