Morton A. Brody

Morton Aaron Brody (born June 12, 1933 in Lewiston , Maine , †  March 25, 2000 in Boston , Massachusetts ) was an American lawyer . After his appointment by President George Bush , he served as a federal judge in the Federal District Court for the District of Maine from 1991 until his death in 2000 .

Career

After graduating from school, Morton Brody attended Bates College in Lewiston, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955 . This was followed in 1958 by the Juris Doctor at the Law School of the University of Chicago , whereupon he first practiced as a lawyer in the federal capital Washington, DC . From 1961 he worked as a lawyer in a law firm in Waterville . From 1980 to 1990 he served as a judge at the Maine Superior Court , which he headed from 1985 as Chief Justice . In 1990, Maine Governor John McKernan appointed him as associate judge on the state's highest court, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court .

On June 14, 1991, Brody was appointed Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Maine by President Bush ; so he took over a previously newly established seat. After confirmation by the US Senate , which took place on July 18 of the same year, he was able to take office seven days later. Morton Brody died in Boston on March 25, 2000 and was buried in the Beth Abraham Cemetery in Auburn. His seat fell to George Z. Singal .
