Moshe Levi (* 1936 in Tel Aviv ; † January 8, 2008 in Afula ) was the 12th Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces from 1983 to 1987 .

Moshe Levi (משה לוי), born in Tel Aviv to an Iraqi Jewish family, was nicknamed Moshe waChetzi (משה וחצי), which means "one and a half moshe" because of its size .

In 1954 he joined the army and initially served in the Golani Brigade . After an officer training course in 1956, during the Suez Crisis , he was involved in the conquest of the Mitla Pass as a member of the Israeli Parachute Brigade . In 1983 Levi was appointed chief of staff ; he was the first to succeed Mizrachi , followed by Rafael Eitan . During his term of office, the restation of Israeli troops in Lebanon and the establishment of a security zone in southern Lebanon fall . The pilot Ron Arad was captured by the Lebanese. Lewi was a co-founder of the Israeli ground forces, which he chaired from 1985; the Nachal Brigade and the Giv'ati Brigade were founded by him.

After leaving the army, Levi lived in Kibbutz Beit Alfa in northern Israel. He served on the board of directors of Autobahn 6, also known as the Transisrael Autobahn . Levi was married and had five children. Lewi suffered his second stroke on January 1, 2008 and died seven days later at the HaEmek clinic in Afula.
