List of rose varieties |
Musk roses or Rosa moschata hybrids are modern shrub roses that "paradoxically" were bred from the wild rose tufted rose ( Rosa multiflora ). They bloom more often, are easy to care for and are suitable for a hedge - therefore they are very popular in gardens and public areas.
Rosa moschata , which comes from Asia, is considered lost in specialist circles. As the mother variety of the Moschata hybrids, the variety 'Aglaia' (Schmitt) was used at the beginning of the 20th century by Peter Lambert and subsequently by Reverend Pemberton for the breeding of more frequent flowering shrub roses, the latter assuming that 'Aglaia' was one Moschata hybrid . The musk roses are also called Lambertiana roses or Pemberton roses.
Most musk roses bloom permanently all summer long and give off an intense scent. Unfilled varieties have retained their wild rose character and are suitable for natural garden design.
