Moses Mendelssohn Prize
The Moses Mendelssohn Prize (not to be confused with the Moses Mendelssohn Medal ) is an award donated by the Berlin Senate . It honors people, groups and institutions who have contributed to the realization and promotion of tolerance towards those who think differently and between peoples, races and religions through special services in the intellectual-literary or religious-philosophical field or through practical social work.
The award was launched on September 6, 1979 on the occasion of the 250th birthday of the German-Jewish philosopher Moses Mendelssohn at the suggestion of the Mendelssohn Society by the Berlin Senate. The prize is awarded every two years and is endowed with 10,000 euros.
A jury decides on the award of the prize. The jury includes representatives from the Mendelssohn Society, the Jewish Community of Berlin , the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia , the Catholic Church ( Archdiocese of Berlin ), the Humanist Association of Germany (Landesverband Berlin-Brandenburg) and two personalities appointed by the Senate .
