Moses Bendix
Moses Bendix ( 1800 - April 7, 1845 ) was a German textile entrepreneur.
Life
The Jewish ancestors of Moses Bendix lived in Billerbeck for generations . On March 3, 1824, he married Sara Pins (1805–1873) from Dülmen , who came from a wealthy Jewish family, and in the same year he founded a textile trade in Dülmen.
Moses Bendix ran the textile trade in a house on Königstrasse (today Viktorstrasse). From Dülmener spinners and weavers were working at home from self-harvested flax spun yarns and woven fabrics bought and then resold. Moses Bendix soon made use of the more profitable publishing system : the necessary raw materials were bought in the Bielefeld area and woven into lengths of fabric by the Dülmen home weavers for a fee. Then Moses Bendix took over the fabrics and sold them.
The Bendix family also operated credit business, because the savings banks in Dülmen and Coesfeld were only founded later.
The marriage of Sara and Moses Bendix had four sons, of whom Herz Bendix (1826–1827) died very early, and five daughters. The sons Pins Bendix (1832 –1878), Leeser Bendix (1839 –1882) and Meyer Bendix (1843 –1905) all settled in Dülmen as merchants after their training.
When Moses Bendix died at an early age, his wife took over the business, which she transferred, including all real estate, to her three sons on April 4, 1867. The company continued to operate under the name of "Widow M. Bendix". The descendants developed the company into Dülmen's largest employer. The company existed until 1993.
