Moses Sichone (born May 31, 1977 in Mufulira ) is a former Zambian football player and current coach . Since 2007 he has also had German citizenship .
Career as a player in Germany
Before the 1999/00 season, 1. FC Köln , which was part of the 2. Bundesliga at the time , was looking for internationally experienced reinforcements on the defensive. Moses Sichone, already a Zambian national player at the time and under contract with Nchanga Rangers FC , was selected for this task . Sichone was given a three-year contract. The fee should have been 700,000 marks. Sichone fulfilled the expectations placed in him straight away and immediately gained a regular place in the defense of the Cologne team. As an important part of the team, he rose with the FC at the end of his first season for the club in the first division , 2001/02 but also from again. After his second promotion with the billy goats in the top German division in 2003, he surprisingly did not extend his contract at the end of the season. Instead, he moved to the lower-class Alemannia Aachen . This move also offered him the opportunity to play in the UEFA Cup there in his first 2004/05 season . In 2006 he was promoted to the Bundesliga with Alemannia. When it came to an immediate relegation in the following season, he moved to Kickers Offenbach , at this point in time like the club he was releasing in second class. He scored three goals in his 19 missions. In spite of the appealing services, the expiring contract was not extended in 2008.
Sichone then kept fit with the amateurs from VfL Wolfsburg and 1. FSV Mainz 05 . In September 2008 he signed a new contract with VfR Aalen until June 30, 2010. At the beginning of April 2009 he was suspended from the squad after he had not shown up for training after a night of drinking. Half a month later this punishment was lifted again. The reason given by the sports management of the club was based on the acute personal emergency at that time. Several injury-related failures within the squad already severely restricted the line-up options. When there was a red card suspension for defense chief Christian Alder , this alternative was chosen. With the descent of VfR Aalen at the end of the season in the Regionalliga Süd , Sichone's contract lost its validity. He then moved to the Cypriot first division club AEP Paphos . From July 2010 he was under contract with FC Carl Zeiss Jena and left the club on June 30, 2011 when his contract expired. After he had actually wanted to end his career as a player, he signed a contract on February 6, 2012 through Lukas Podolski with the regional division club FC Bergheim 2000 in Bergheim near Cologne .
Career as a coach
Between 2013 and 2017, Sichone took on various coaching positions in the youth division at Alemannia Aachen , where he had also been an active player before. From November 2018 to October 2019 he was in charge of FC Rhenania 1920 Lohn in the district league Staffel A Düren with the aim of advancing to the district league. After Rhenania only finished 9th in the table after six match days in the 2019/20 season, he was released from his duties after a 2-0 draw against VfVuJ Winden .
National team
Sichone made 44 international caps for the national football team of Zambia . He remained without a goal.
