Moson [ ˈmoʃon ] ( German Wieselburg ) is a suburb of Mosonmagyaróvár in the northwestern Hungarian Győr-Moson-Sopron County .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1046 as Musun . At that time there was a castle there, but it was completely razed by the Bohemian King Ottokar II Přemysl . At the time of the Arpad , Moson was an important trading center. The former county of Moson is named after the place.

On December 18, 1848, Artúr Görgey defeated the Croatian Ban Josip Jelačić , who was loyal to the Habsburg castle, during the Hungarian struggle for freedom .

With the construction of the railway line between Vienna and Budapest at the beginning of the 20th century, the place gradually lost its importance.

In 1939, Moson was combined with the then county seat of Magyaróvár (Hungarian Altenburg) to form the new town of Mosonmagyaróvár .

In 1914, Wieselburger Gasse in Vienna- Favoriten (10th district) was named after the German-speaking name of the city.
