history

The Motisi Mafia Clan is a historic Sicilian Mafia clan from the Pagliarelli region in Palermo. The Motisi clan was founded in 1937 by Melchiorre Allegra, a doctor who went through the Mafia initiation rites. Lorenzo Motisi represented the Mandamento Pagliarelli (Palermo) in the first Sicilian Mafia Commission from 1958 to 1963 . Ignazio Motisi followed him in the Cupola of 1978. Matteo Motisi became a member of the Cupola after the Second Mafia War as a result of the reorganization in 1983. Previously, the Pagliarelli family was part of the mandament of Santa Maria di Gesù under the direction of Stefano Bontade . Matteo Motisi, as an ally of the Corleonesi, received life imprisonment for the murders of anti-mafia judges Rocco Chinnici, Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, as well as for 22 murders of members of the Bontade and Inzerillo clans during the Second Mafia War from 1981 to 1983. Giovanni Motisi succeeded his uncle Matteo as head of the Pagliarelli family. He, who was close to Bernardo Provenzano , was one of the most powerful capo mafia in Palermo and was implicated in a long series of murders committed by the Corleonesi. The murder of police officer Beppe Montana on July 28, 1985 was proven to him. Giovanni Motisi has been on the run since 1993 and is considered one of the most powerful bosses in Palermo. Motisi has been listed by the Italian Ministry of the Interior (Latitanti di massima pericolosità) as one of the most wanted criminals since 1998.
