Motoo Kimura

Motoo Kimura ( Japanese 木村 資 生 , Kimura Motoo ; born November 13, 1924 in Okazaki , † November 13, 1994 in Mishima ) was a Japanese geneticist and evolutionary biologist .

Live and act

Motoo Kimura graduated from Kyoto University . From 1949 he was a member of the National Institute of Genetics in Mishima and dealt with population genetics. Based on his research on the mutation level of DNA, he contradicted the theory of natural selection, which has been the common assumption since Darwin . In 1968 he formulated the neutral theory of molecular evolution .

In 1978 Kimura was accepted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
