Mount & Blade: Warband is a remake of the medieval action role-playing game Mount & Blade , which was released in March 2010 for Windows , macOS and Linux and in September 2016 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One . In this remake, many things have been renewed and improved compared to the previous one. The game was developed by the Turkish developer TaleWorlds Entertainment and is distributed by Paradox Interactive . Like the main game Mount & Blade , Warband does without any fantasy elements and does not tell any plot. Instead, the player is free to choose his game goals within the framework of the game.

Gameplay

The gameplay is almost completely taken over from the predecessor, only minimal aspects have been changed (see section Innovations ).

At the beginning of the game you create your own character in a character editor . The action takes place in the fictional, medieval country of Calradia, which is torn by the power struggle of rival kingdoms.

On the world map of Calradia you can travel to another position in real time with a click. On the map it is possible to interact with fixed places (e.g. castles, villages and cities) or mobile units (looters, caravans, princely armies). It is also possible to carry out certain management aspects of the game on this card.

If you enter one of the places mentioned or enter a battle, the view changes from the map perspective to a third-person perspective and you are typically able to control the character using the mouse and keyboard for role-playing games.

An elementary game idea of Mount & Blade is that you not only lead yourself, but an entire mercenary company built by yourself into battle. These mercenaries can be recruited as recruits in the villages on the world map and upgraded to stronger units through training, or they can be acquired in taverns.

fraction

There are six different factions in the Calradia Empire. They are ruled by a grand duke, but they have different titles. Some of them have the titles of king, sultan and khan (Sanjar Khan). Each of them has their own vassals, who also have different titles of nobility (Kingdom of Swadia and Kingdom of the Rhodocks: Count, Khergit Khanate: Noyan, Sarranid Sultanate: Emir, Kingdom of the Northmen: Jarl, Vaegir Kingdom: Boyar).

Every kingdom has its own region at the beginning, with the Northmen there is a lot of coast, with the Khergites it is the steppe, with the Swaden there are many forests and meadows, the area of the Rhodock Kingdom is built with a lot of rocky landscape, the Vaegirs live in snowy regions and the Sarranids are native to the desert.

Each faction has its own color for its fiefdom , so you know which fiefs belong to which factions.

Extensions

So far (as of January 2015) two download extensions (DLC) for Mount & Blade: Warband have been released by the developer.

Mount & Blade: Warband - Napoleonic Wars , released on April 19, 2012, is a multiplayer expansion at the time of the Napoleonic Wars. In the large community, numerous clans, so-called regiments, have formed, which compete against each other in organized "line battles".

The expansion Mount & Blade Warband: Viking Conquest is set in the time of the Vikings. In single player mode you can decide whether you want to play the campaign with a story or in a sandbox world without any specifications. For the first time you can move across the sea by ship and fight in sea battles.

successor

In 2012 the successor Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord was announced.

Modding

A large modding community has formed. The various user-created modifications range from small changes to the game mechanics to so-called total conversions in which everything except the game engine is changed. Most of the mods relate to the multiplayer mode. The mods Iron Europe , Deluge , North and South , cRPG , Rome at War and Steel and Sword are examples. Single player mods include A World of Ice and Fire , A Clash of Kings and Bellum Imperiii . Many popular enhancements to the game mechanics are combined in the Floris Mod Pack .
