Mount Absalom is the southernmost and with 1640 m (according to the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee 1645 m ) the highest mountain of the Herbert Mountains in the central section of the Shackleton Range in the East Antarctic Coatsland .
It was first mapped by participants in the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) under the direction of British polar explorer Vivian Fuchs . It is named after Henry William Lyon Absalom (1894–1965), a member of the scientific committee of the expedition.
