Mount Andrus is a 2978 m high extinct shield volcano in Marie Byrd Land in West Antarctica .
Mount Andrus forms the southernmost part of the Ames Range , which consists of three merging volcanic cones. This volcanic chain, which runs roughly in a north-south direction, was formed during the Miocene (23.03–5.33 million years ago ). Mount Andrus is the youngest of them, which was active up to the late Pleistocene (beginning 1.8 million years ago), but possibly also into the Holocene (beginning 11,500 years ago), i.e. the present. The summit of the mountain consists of a bowl-shaped collapse crater, a caldera , with a diameter of 4.5 km. The lava produced by the volcanoes of the Ames Range has a trachytic composition.
The mountain was first climbed in 1967. It bears the name of the medical officer Carl Huber Andrus (* 1934) of the United States Navy , officer on duty at Byrd Station in the Antarctic winter of 1964.
