Mount Apolotok is a striking and 2555 m high mountain made of red granite in the north of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It rises up in the Salamander Range of the Freyberg Mountains .
The translation of the name, borrowed from the language of the Eskimos, is "the great red". The Northern Group gave it this descriptive name from a campaign carried out from 1963 to 1964 as part of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition .
