Mount Dater is a prominent and 1200 m high mountain with a flattened summit in eastern Grahamland on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises south of Mill Inlet on the Foyn coast and is characterized by rock spurs and cliffs .
The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey roughly mapped it in 1947. Aerial photographs were taken during the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948) and in 1963 by the United States Navy . After measurements by the British Antarctic Survey between 1963 and 1964, the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the mountain in 1976 after the US marine historian Henry Murray Dater (1909-1974), member of the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names from 1962 to 1972 and chairman this body from 1973 to 1974.
