Mount Ellis is a mountain in the Australian Antarctic Territory . At 2330 m , it is the highest mountain in the Darwin Mountains in the Transantarctic Mountains . It rises on the northern edge of the Midnight Plateau .
The team to explore the Darwin Glacier in the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) mapped and named him. Namesake is the New Zealand engineer Murray Roland Ellis (1923-2005), who was part of Edmund Hillary's team on this expedition for the journey to the geographic South Pole.
