The Mount Gorton is a distinctive and 1995 m high mountain at the Oates Coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the southern Wilson Hills it rises 10 km west-southwest of Mount Perez .
The first aerial photographs of the mountain were taken during the US operation Highjump (1946–1947). The Australian polar explorer Phillip Law sighted the mountain as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions and carried out a position determination on board the ship Magga Dan . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) named him on July 4, 1961 after the Australian politician John Gorton (1911-2002), then Australia's Minister of the Navy.
