Mount Hope (English for Mountain of Hope ) is a 3239  m high mountain in the north of the Palmerland or in the southern section of the Antarctic Peninsula . It lies in the center of the Eternity Range and is also the highest peak of this mountain range.

It was discovered and named by the American polar explorer Lincoln Ellsworth , who flew over the area of the Eternity Range several times between November 21 and 23, 1935. In November 1936, participants in the British Graham Land Expedition (1934-1937) led by the Australian polar explorer John Rymill made surveys. Rymill named it Mount Wakefield . Contradictions in the comparison of the information between Ellsworth and Rymill subsequently prevented a clear assignment. Only through further investigations as part of the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948) and the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1960 as well as the comparison with earlier reports, maps and photographs allowed the area around the mountain described here to be narrowed down. For reasons of historical continuity, Rymill's name was discarded and transferred to the nearby Wakefield Highland .

In the original surveys, the height of Mount Hope was given as 2860  m . According to the results of the British Antarctic Survey published in 2017, the actual height is 3239  m . As part of the British Antarctic Territory , it is unofficially the highest mountain in the United Kingdom. Mount Jackson has so far carried this title .
