Mount Leo is a 1270 m high and solitary mountain on the Fallières coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . With its steep cliffs on the southern flank, it rises at the southeastern end of the Forster-Piedmont Glacier .
Participants in the British Graham Land Expedition (1934–1937) led by the Australian polar explorer John Rymill made a first rough survey . He was photographed in 1947 during an overflight as part of the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition under the direction of the US polar explorer Finn Ronne . In 1958, a detailed survey by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey followed . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee gave it a descriptive name in 1962 because the shape of the mountain is reminiscent of a reclining lion ( Latin leo ).
