The Mount Mather is a 3695 m high mountain in the Alaska Range in Alaska (USA). The mountain was named in 1947 by the National Park Service (NPS) in honor of Stephen T. Mather, director of the National Park Service from 1917–1929.
geography
The mountain is located in the west-central section of the Alaska range, just under 32 km east-northeast of Denali in Denali National Park . The west flank is drained northwards via the Brooks Glacier , while the ice masses on the south and east flanks drain towards the Eldridge Glacier .
Ascent history
The first ascent of the summit was made on July 21, 1952 by John Humphries, Winslow Briggs, Thayer Scudder and David Bernays from the East Brooks Glacier from the west over the north ridge.
