At 2934  m, Mount Paget is the highest mountain in South Georgia and thus also the highest peak in the British overseas territories . It is heavily glaciated .

It is a saddle-shaped mountain and marks the highest point of the Allardyce Range in the middle of South Georgia. Because of its extreme conditions (extreme weather changes), mountaineers consider it to be an extremely difficult summit to conquer, which is why it was only climbed by a handful of people. The first ascent was on December 30, 1964 by Malcolm Burley . Even the simplest route forces the climber to snow and ice climbing .

The namesake is the British Admiral Alfred Wyndham Paget (1852-1918), who had commanded a squadron of the Royal Navy , from which the HMS Sappho had been recalled in 1906 for a reconnaissance trip to South Georgia.
