Mount Paine is a massive 3330 m high mountain with a flattened summit in Marie Byrd Land in western Antarctica . It rises in the western part of the La Gorce Mountains .
The geological team led by Quin Blackburn (1900-1981) on the second Antarctic expedition (1933-1935) of the American polar explorer Richard Evelyn Byrd discovered him. Namesake is Stuart Douglas Lansing Paine (1910–1961), navigator and radio operator of this team.
