Mount Palmer is an icy mountain on Thurston Island off the Eights coast of West Antarctic Ellsworthland . It rises on the northern end of the Noville Peninsula .
Its position was determined from aerial photographs taken by the United States Navy in December 1946, which were taken during Operation Highjump (1946–1947). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 1968 after James Croxall Palmer (1811-1883), surgeon on the full ship relief and later on the Sloop Peacock during the United States Exploring Expedition (1838-1842) under the direction of the American polar explorer Charles Wilkes .
