The Mount Porndon is a volcano in the Newer Volcanics Province , 13 kilometers southeast of Camperdown in the west of Victoria in Australia .

The mountain, which was formed 300,000 years ago, lies in a volcanic landscape with lava flows , tuff deposits , cinder and volcanic craters . It rises 278 meters above sea level and 105 meters above the surrounding area.

Numerous basalt rivers flowed from the crater of Mount Porndon and formed the terrain forms known locally as stony rises (stone swells ), some of which extend as far as Lake Corangamite .

The lava formed a crater 3 km in circumference and 10 to 15 meters high. The crater is open to the west. A thin layer of tuff is deposited on the basalt .

There is a fire watchtower on top of the volcano and quarries can be seen in the lower areas .
