Mount Porteus is a mountain in the East Antarctic Enderbyland . It rises just east of Peacock Ridge in the Tula Mountains .
It was mapped using aerial photographs taken by members of a team on the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions in 1956. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) named the mountain after William Franklin Porteus (1901-1931), Australian Able Seaman on the RSS Discovery on the British Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (BANZARE, 1929-1931) under the direction of Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson .
