At 2050 m, Mount Rainbow is the highest mountain of the Doolittle massif in the northwestern Churchill Mountains of the Antarctic Ross Dependency .
Participants in a campaign from 1960 to 1961 as part of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition named it after the multicolored banding of sandstone and dolerite on pink-green limestone .
