Mount Simpson is a mountain on Thurston Island off the Eights coast of West Antarctic Ellsworthland . In the Walker Mountains it rises immediately to the west of the head end of the Hale Glacier .
It was first mapped using aerial photographs taken by the United States Navy during Operation Highjump (1946-1947) in December 1946. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1960 after Lieutenant B. L. Simpson Jr. of the Navy Squadron VX-6, pilot one Lockheed P2V Neptune to take additional aerial photographs of the area in January 1960.
