Mount Treadwell is a 820 m high mountain in Marie Byrd Land in West Antarctica . In the Ford Ranges it looms over the southeastern foothills of the Swanson Mountains .
Scientists from the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) mapped it. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 1969 after Thurman Kelso Treadwell Jr. (1920-2003) of the United States Navy , head of the Naval Oceanographic Office from 1945 to 1968.
