Mount Tricorn is a striking massif with steep and rocky flanks on the Lassiter coast of the Palmerland in the south of the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises at the head of Wright Inlet . The up to 1120 m high rims surround a snow-covered plateau , at the north-western end of which a 1610 m high peak rises.
Participants of the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) stationed on the East Base on Stonington Island discovered and photographed him on December 30, 1940 from the air. They named him after his shape in plan view to a three-cornered hat ( English tricorn ) recalls.
