Mount Tutoko is a 2723 meter high mountain on the South Island of New Zealand . It is located in Fiordland National Park between the eastern end of Lake McKerrow and the end of Milford Sound 15 kilometers north of the Homer Tunnel , a few kilometers northwest of Mount Madeline (2012 m). The mountain has snow fields and several hanging glaciers .
The first ascent was made in 1924 by Samuel Turner and Peter Graham over the northwest ridge, a route that is still in use today.
According to Māori tradition , the mountain is named after a chief who is said to have lived on Martin's Bay near the mouth of the Hollyford River .
