The mount warrenheip is an inactive volcano in Victoria , which rises to 741 meters above sea level and 170 meters above the surrounding terrain. The mountain is located 9 kilometers from the town of Ballarat and its suburb of Warrenheip and is accessible via Forbes Road .

The last time Mount Warrenheip was active was 2.5 (+/-) 0.15 million years ago when numerous lava flows emerged from the crater . The mountain is one of the highest protruding volcanoes in Victoria. The lava contains olivine-rich xenolites and large clinopyroxene and orthoclase crystals.

The word Warrenheip comes from the Aborigines of Wathaurong and means the feathers of the Emu , which the vegetation of Fern describes covering the mountain.

Along with Mount Buninyong , it is one of the two forested volcanoes in Victoria. After 100 trees died in the forest on the volcano at the end of 2010, experimental fires were set up in January 2011 to clear the undergrowth.

A telecommunications antenna is on the mountain, which is partly in public ownership.
