course

The Mountain Highway branches off at the border between the suburbs Wantirna South and Wantirna from the Burwood Highway (S26) to the northeast, passes under the EastLink (without a connection) and runs through the suburb Wantirna . From there it continues east and southeast through Bayswater and The Basin .

This is where the climb into the dandenongs begins . The road meanders uphill through the western part of the Dandenong Ranges National Park until it meets the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road (C415) in Sassafras and ends.

Between Burwood Highway and Dorset Road (S5) the highway is four lanes. It even has six lanes between Stud Road (S9) and Scoresby Road / Bayswater Road (S7). From Dorset Road the road becomes two lanes and climbs steeply in the area of the Dandenong Ranges National Park (5% gradient).

The maximum speed between Burwood Highway and Bayswater is 80 km / h and from Bayswater to Sassafras 70 km / h. The residential areas of Bayswater and The Basin are allowed to drive 60 km / h, while those of the national park are only 50 km / h.
