Aerial photographs of the US American Operation Highjump (1946–1947) and the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) from 1958 were used to map them. It was first visited in January 1969 by an ANARE team led by John Manning (* 1937) to explore the Prince Charles Mountains . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named them after Anthony L. Mousinho, pilot of a de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver in the service of this team.
