The Movimentu Libertasaun ba Povu Mauchte MLPM ( German  freedom movement for the people of Maupe ) is a political party from East Timor . She classifies her ideology as center-left. The party headquarters are in Mata Doro ( Suco Vila Verde ).

Background and story

The party was founded in 2013 by former Health Minister Nélson Martins . On November 16, he was elected president of the party. Vice-President is Ivo da Costa , General Secretary Vitor Reis Cadalac . It was recognized as a party by the Tribunal de Recurso de Timor-Leste in July 2015.

The seven principles of the party are:

  1. Believe in Almighty God
  2. Honor, fame, land and people
  3. One people, one nation, one dream
  4. Just humanism, tolerance and solidarity
  5. Social justice for all members of the people of Maubere
  6. Popularity of democratic leadership
  7. A just society and prosperity

Party President Martins emphasizes that he sees all parts of the population as members of the Maupe, whether “ Kaladi (people from the western part of the country) or Firaku (from the east of the country), black or white, mountain or coastal residents, city or Villager". He went on to say, “To be a nation we must all nurture the spirit of nationalism, patriotism and solidarity, every day at home, in the wheat and barley fields, at school, in the market, on the street and around each of us in his private life. "

In terms of economic policy, Martins would like to introduce the traditional system of Marine ( Kerakyatan ). Investments should be made in the health and education systems. Agriculture and tourism are to be promoted in order to give work to young people, especially in rural areas.

In the 2017 parliamentary elections , the MLPM received 0.23% of the vote and failed to pass the four percent hurdle. The MLPM then joined the Fórum Demokrátiku Nasionál (FDN), but separated from the alliance in 2018 before the early elections on May 12th to become part of the Movimentu Dezenvolvimentu Nasional (MDN). However, this was only able to achieve 4,494 votes (share: 0.7%) in the parliamentary elections and thus clearly failed because of the four percent hurdle.

Symbols

The third principle of the party can also be found on Tetum as a motto on the party's logo ( Povu Ida, Nasaun Ida, Vizaun Ida ), together with the words La 'Povu (short for “Liberta Povu,” German  Liberates the people ?). This shows a traditional holy house of the Fataluku , which is generally considered the national symbol of the East Timorese, enclosed by a light blue and a yellow ring. The party flag is a horizontal tricolor in yellow, light blue and white. The party name is in black letters in a yellow stripe, the abbreviation MLPM in white. In the middle of the flag is the logo in the blue stripe.
