Mr Hudson is a British pop and R&B band.

Band history

Ben Hudson studied English literature in Oxford before he decided in 2006 to start a band with his friend Maps Huxley. The unusual line-up included Joy Joseph on steel pan drums and Torville Jones, a pianist with classical training. They were called Mr Hudson and the Library . The music style is also unusual, Britpop mixed with R&B , grime , reggae , jazz and other influences.

A first EP was released in October 2006 and an appearance on Later with Jools Holland in December provided additional popularity. In the following year a tour followed with appearances in British libraries as part of a project that had already existed for a long time. They also went on tour with her as the opening act for Amy Winehouse . Her debut album A Tale of Two Cities was released in the spring . The literary allusion to Charles Dickens (A Tale of Two Cities) refers to Birmingham, where Hudson is from, and London, where the band is based. In addition to its own pieces, it also contains cover versions of On the Street Where You Live from the musical My Fair Lady and Matt Dennis ' swing classic Everything Happens to Me . The album and debut single Too Late, Too Late made a first impression in the UK charts in 2007.

This was followed by appearances at Glastonbury and other well-known festivals as well as appearances with Mika , Groove Armada and The Police . They were also discovered by American rapper and producer Kanye West , who signed Hudson as a solo artist on his own label. The Library broke up, of the original members only Joy Joseph and drummer Wilkie Wilkinson remained in the band, two new ones were added and they only appeared as Mr Hudson .

This was followed by a collaboration between Hudson and West on his album 808s & Heartbreak , which was released in late 2008. The common song album Paranoid reached in the US pop charts Genre least No. 34. West retaliated for a guest appearance on Mr Hudson's single supernova . This became the first big hit and reached number 2 on the UK charts. It was pre-released from the second album Straight No Chaser .

In addition to Kanye West, Ben Hudson worked with Jay-Z on his album Blueprint 3 , which contains the joint song Young Forever , a cover version of the Alphaville classic Forever Young .

In addition, Mr Hudson worked with Duran Duran on their album Paper Gods , which was released in 2015. Mr. Hudson was on stage at some of the performances on the “Paper Gods Tour” . B. on December 4, 2015 in Birmingham.
