Muconda is a small town in Angola . Until 1975 the place had the Portuguese place name Nova Chaves .

history

On January 13, 1968, the district was created under Portuguese colonial administration . Bento Roma, the governor of the Lunda district at that time, named the place Nova Chaves (New Chaves), after his Portuguese hometown Chaves .

After Angola's independence in 1975, the place was given its current name.

Muconda is the seat of a district of the same name ( Município ) in the province of Lunda Sul . The district has about 35,000 inhabitants (2013 estimate) on an area of ​​26,966 km². From now on, the 2014 census will provide reliable population data.
