Mufti Negara Brunei

The Mufti Negara Brunei ( English State Mufti of Brunei , German: Staats mufti von Brunei) is the supreme ʿUlamā ' (religious scholar) of the Sunnis in Brunei . He is appointed by the Sultan of Brunei .

tasks

The Mufti Negara Brunei issues legal judgments, so-called fatwas , on legal issues and social behavior on the basis of the Koran , the hadiths , qiyās ' and idschmāʿs .

history

In 1962, Ismail bin Omar Abdul Aziz was appointed as the first Mufti Negara Brunei, initially until 1965. Before that he was the Vice Mufti of Johor in Malaysia . In 1967 he was used for life.

In 1994 the former Deputy Mufti Negara Brunei, Pehin Tuan Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned , a native of Brunei, was appointed Mufti Negara Brunei.
