Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom (born November 26, 1995 ) is a Malaysian cyclist who is active in the short-term disciplines on the track .

Athletic career

In 2015, Muhammad Sahrom won the Keirin competition at the South East Asian GP and won three gold medals at the Taiwan Track Cup . In 2017 he finished third at the Asian Championships in the Keirin. At the fourth round of the Track Cycling World Cup in Los Angeles in 2016/17 , he came third in the Keirin. He finished fourth in the overall ranking of the World Cup. Subsequently, Sahrom was celebrated in Malaysian newspapers as a "rising track cycling star"; the Malaysian sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin congratulated him on Twitter .

At the 2018 Asian Games , Sahrom won silver in the team sprint together with Azizulhasni Awang and Muhammad Fadhil Mohd Zonis . At the Asian championships in the following year he won three medals: silver in the keirin and bronze in the sprint and with Amar Danial Masri and Muhamad Khairil Nizam Rasol in the team sprint.

doping

In 2014, after winning the bronze medal in the sprint at the Malaysia Games , Sahrom tested positive for the substance dexamethasone , which is banned in competitive sport, and was banned from the Malaysian Cycling Federation for 18 months. In May 2015 the ban was reduced to twelve months, so that Sahrom was allowed to compete again from June 1st. The reason for the reduction in the penalty was that the athlete had been notified of the laboratory results too late.
