Muharrem Gürbüz (born August 21, 1957 in Izmir ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. Since during his time at Karşıyaka SK there was another Muharrem in the team squad with Muharrem Dirik and he was older, Gürbüz was henceforth referred to as Küçük Muharrem (German: The Little Muharrem) and Dirik as Büyük Muharrem (German: The Big Muharrem) .
Player career
society
Gürbüz went through the youth department of Izmirspor . Later he was accepted into the professional squad at the club, which was then active in the third Turkish league. From 1975 he started playing for the Turkish U-18 national team and so caught the eye of many talent hunters.
As a result of his increased popularity, he was committed in the summer of 1976 by the second division Diyarbakırspor . At the end of the season, his team reached the second division championship and thus the first first division participation in the club's history. After promotion, he stayed in the team, but was not taken into account in the team planning.
After Gürbüz could not prevail at Diyarbakırspor, he was given in the first days of the 1977/78 season to the northeast Turkish second division club Rizespor . In his second season with this club, his team ended the season as a second division championship and thus achieved the first promotion and the first first division participation in the club's history. After promotion, he advanced with his team to the surprise team of the first division season 1979/80 . Gürbüz played an important part in this success with his achievements and thus only became a Turkish U-21 player and a little later a national player during the season . In the second first division season his team missed relegation and was relegated to the second Turkish division.
After his club Rizespor had missed relegation, Gürbüz moved to the second division of his hometown Izmir, to Karşıyaka SK . At this club he played six seasons. In the season 1985/86 he was with his team champions of the second division season 1986/87 and rose with his team in the first division.
After two first division years for Karşıyaka, he moved within Izmir to arch rivals and second division club Göztepe Izmir . For this club he worked for two seasons and then ended his career.
National team
Gürbüz 'international career began in 1982 with a commitment for the Turkish U-18 national team. After nine appearances for the U-18s, he started playing for the Turkish U-21 national team in the spring of 1979 .
As part of a World Cup 1982 qualifier against the Icelandic national team , Gürbüz was nominated for the first time in the Turkish national team as coach Sabri Kiraz in autumn 1982 . In this game he made his international debut. By the summer of 1984, Gürbüz was nominated seven more times, completed five more international matches and scored one goal.
Coaching career
Gürbüz started his coaching career in 1993 at Göztepe Izmir as an assistant coach. He then worked in 1995 at Altınordu Izmir as head coach. This was followed by assistant coaching stations at Karşıyaka SK , Malatyaspor and Denizlispor .
For the 2009-10 season he was appointed sports director at Çaykur Rizespor . A few weeks later he resigned from his position.
