Food chopper Multiboy LZ 251

The Multiboy food shredder was an electrically operated kitchen appliance from the Elbe Valley Works Heidenau in the VEB Kombinat Elektromaschinenbau Dresden . This kitchen appliance was manufactured with the type designations "LZ 250", "LZ 251", "LMZ 252" and most recently "LZ 2000" in Dresden from the mid-1970s .

history

The first device at the end of the 1970s had the type designation LZ 250. It was replaced in the early 1980s by the LZ 251 with improved functional properties. These primarily concern the extension of the motor shaft and a change in the knife holder (omission of the special tool for removing the knife). The work bowl with its contents could now also be removed from the Multiboy. Knife, work bowl and lid are not compatible between LZ 250 and LZ 251. In the mid-1980s, a further improved type LMZ 252 followed ("electronic version" with adjustable speed). With the LZ 2000 at the end of the 1980s, the manufacturer brought a device with a different design onto the market, for which an attachment for raw food preparation was also available. The design of this Multiboy comes from Margarita Kaiser.

The Multiboy was the first device in the GDR that was specially developed for chopping (i.e. not as an add-on device for mixers), so it was in great demand and often difficult to obtain . The Multiboy from VEB Elektromaschinenbau Dresden is one of the few examples that a company in the GDR's capital goods industry managed to develop a coveted product as part of the production of consumer goods . The device was not exported.

function

The food chopper combines the functions of a grater, chopping knife, onion cutter, meat grinder, kitchen knife, almond grinder, cheese grater, etc. in one. The Multiboy chops all kinds of food in short-term operation for up to 30 seconds. It is a floor-standing device, but can also be lifted and shaken with two hands during operation. This prevents the food from sticking to the wall. It weighs 2.1 kg empty  . Thanks to its simple construction, it can be cleaned quickly. At the time they were marketed, the lid, work bowl and cleaver were available from GHG Household Goods in Gera .

Structure of the device

The device has a diameter of about 15 cm and a height of 24 cm and consists of the motor block with an output of 500 watts , the work bowl, the knife and the lid. The motor and the electrical components are installed in the housing. When the cover is pressed down, the motor is switched on; when the cover is released, the motor is switched off and immediately brought to a standstill by a brake circuit.

Due to the curved shape of the cutting knife and the acid-proof work bowl, this device is able to chop and puree raw fruits and vegetables that have been prepared into two-centimeter pieces. The degree of shredding can be observed through the transparent lid. A special “knife morphology” is supposed to ensure that the “tissue cells” (what is probably meant is the tissue , not the cells ) are not smashed but cut up.

  8. The special tools, knife, knife holder mechanism (LZ 250), the plastic used, the shape and dimensions of the work bowl and lid suggest that the Moulinette and the LZ 250 were produced in the GDR and have interchangeable individual parts. Possibly the LZ 250 was intended as the successor to the Moulinette.
