San Juan Bautista Tlacoatzintepec is a municipality in the north of the Mexican state of Oaxaca . The municipality extends over an area of 50.3 km², the 2010 census counted 2292 inhabitants in the municipality. The administrative seat and largest place in the municipality is the San Juan Bautista Tlacoatzintepec of the same name .

The municipality of San Juan Bautista Tlacoatzintepec is located at an altitude between 100 m and 2000 m in the Cuicatlán district of the Cañada region . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre del Sur and lies entirely in the catchment area of the Río Papaloapan . The geology of the municipality is characterized by limestone , siltstone - sandstone and lutite sandstone, the predominant soil types are regosol and acrisol . 95% of the municipality is occupied by evergreen tropical forests.
