The municipality Xochihuehuetlán is a municipality in the east of the Mexican state Guerrero in the La Montaña region . The administrative seat of the municipality is located in the town of the same name, Xochihuehuetlán , which is also the largest in the municipality. The municipality had 7079 inhabitants at the 2010 census, its area amounts to 262.5 km².

The municipality of Xochihuehuetlán is located in the northeast of the Mexican state of Guerrero at heights between 700  m and 2000  m . About 82% of it belongs to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre del Sur and 18% in the area of ​​the Sierra Volcánica Transversal and completely in the catchment area of ​​the Río Balsas , 98% of which in the catchment area of ​​its tributary Río Tlapaneco . The geology of the municipality is determined by 46% limestone with about 27% mica schist and 24% pyroclastics ; The predominant soil type is the Leptosol (94% of the municipal area). More than 85% of the community area is forested, a good 11% is used for arable farming.
