Muqrin ibn Abd al-Aziz Al Saʿud ( Arabic مقرن بن عبد العزيز آل سعود, DMG Muqrin b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Āl Saʿūd ; * September 15, 1945 ) is the 43rd son of King Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud . He was the First Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia from January 23 to April 29, 2015 .

Life

When Prince Muqrin was eight years old, his father died. He was raised for most of his life by his Yemeni mother, Princess Baraka Al-Yamaniyah, and her relatives, and trained in diplomatic and political work. Prince Muqrin was educated at the Al-Assema Model Institute during his childhood and then received his secondary education at the Islamic Institute in Mecca .

From 1966, Prince Muqrin studied at the British Royal Air Force College ( RAF Cranwell ). After graduating there, he was promoted to captain in 1968. From 1969 he trained in modern combat aircraft at Dhahran Air Force Base. From 1970 he served in the 2nd Air Wing. In 1973 he was promoted to major and held the post of flight instructor. In 1975 he was promoted to colonel (commanding officer of the 7th Luftschwadron) of the Saudi Arabian Air Force named after a Master's degree in the UK for aerodynamics had graduated. In 1977, Prince Muqrin was raised to the rank of general by his older half-brother, King Khalid , and held the post of Deputy Director of Operations and Planning in the Saudi Arabian Air Force. On March 18, 1980, he was appointed governor of Ha'il Province by King Khalid .

On November 24, 1999, Prince Muqrin was appointed governor of Medina Province. On October 22, 2005, King Abdullah appointed his younger half-brother Prince Muqrin as the new president of the Saudi Arabian secret service al-Muchabarat al-'Amma . He stayed that way until 2012 when he was appointed advisor to his older half-brother King Abdullah. In 2013 he was appointed Second Deputy Prime Minister, and in 2014 he was named Second Crown Prince. After the death of King Abdullah in early 2015, he became First Crown Prince, and second Crown Prince was Mohammed ibn Naif . On April 29, 2015, he was replaced in the role of First Crown Prince by the previous second Crown Prince Mohammed ibn Naif. On March 8, 2020, he was arrested for high treason on behalf of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman .

Private

In his spare time, Prince Muqrin is a farmer. He has eight daughters and six sons from two marriages.
