Murrbäder Backnang Wonnemar
The Murrbäder Backnang Wonnemar are a public leisure pool in Backnang , which consists of a combination of an indoor pool , an outdoor pool and a sauna area . It is located in the east of the city near the eponymous river Murr .
history
The mineral open-air pool, which was later integrated into the Murrbäder Backnang Wonnemar , was opened on June 15, 1930.
The Wonnemar was designed by the architect Peter de Wit.
At around EUR 18.5 million in construction costs, the Wonnemar was the most expensive individual project in the history of the city of Backnang.
There was a political discussion in Backnang about the naming of the new pool until 2012. Not all parties initially included the Wonnemar group in their name. The name of the bath was voted on in May 2012 in the Backnang municipal council.
Construction work began in April 2011. The Wonnemar was built within around 19 months. It was opened on December 10, 2012. It replaces the old indoor swimming pool opened in 1965 on Annonaystrasse, which was closed in 2012 and is to be demolished.

The Murrbäder Backnang Wonnemar are operated as part of the Wonnemar adventure pools by the Stuttgart InterSPA Group, which also acted as the client. The indoor pool and the sauna area are open all year round, the outdoor pool only open in the summer.
The Wonnemar employs 45 people.
The Murrbäder bus stop , which was newly established in 2012, connects the Wonnemar to local public transport .
Visitor numbers
In the first year after the opening of the Wonnemar, around 215,000 visitors came to the indoor pool and sauna area. In addition, around 121,000 guests visited the outdoor pool.
The sauna area alone was visited by around 64,000 guests in the first year.
Others
The Wonnemar is the training facility for the swimming department at TSG Backnang . The TSG water polo players play their home games in Wonnemar.
The Triathlon Club Backnang also uses the Wonnemar as a training facility.
The Wonnemar is also used as a venue for concerts.
