The Musée des lettres et manuscrits ( German  "Museum of letters and manuscripts" ) was a literary museum in Paris . Tens of thousands of historical letters and manuscripts were exhibited here.

history

One of the exhibits in the museum was this German
Enigma I
rotor cipher machine , which was used by the Wehrmacht during World War II .

The museum was originally opened in 2004 in the 6th arrondissement of Paris by the French entrepreneur and manuscript dealer Gérard Lhéritier (* 1948) in a building dating from 1608 at 8 rue de Nesle . In 2010 the collection moved to 222  Boulevard Saint-Germain (picture right) .

At the end of 2015 the museum had to close due to legal problems. The collection was confiscated by the French authorities.

The French journalist , author and television presenter Patrick Poivre d'Arvor (* 1947) was the museum's patron .
