Patrick Poivre d'Arvor (born September 20, 1947 in Reims , France ) is a French journalist , author and television presenter .

Life

After finishing school, Poivre d'Arvor studied law at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris in Paris and oriental languages ​​at the Institut national des langues et civilizations orientales . After graduating, Poivre d'Arvor became a journalist. In 1971 he got his first job in the radio program of France Inter . In 1974 he switched to the French public television broadcaster France 2 . From 1975 to 1983 he worked there as a newscaster and television presenter. After a brief employment at the television channel Canal + from 1983, Poivre d'Arvor switched to TF1 in 1986 .

Poivre d'Arvor has hosted the evening news Journal de 20 heures on Télévision Française 1 since August 1987 . The Journal de 20 heures is the most watched daily news program in France . Poivre d'Arvor moderated alternately with the journalist Claire Chazal . In 2008 Poivre d'Arvor was fired from his job as a news anchor for the Journal de 20 heures . His successor was the French journalist Laurence Ferrari .

Poivre d'Arvor is married and has three daughters and one son. Due to the bulimia of one of his daughters and her suicide at the age of 19 in a Paris metro station in 1995, Poivre d'Arvor became involved as an author and journalist on the subject.

Since 2007 he has been the UNICEF ambassador for the francophone countries.
