The coccygeus muscle ( Latin for "coccyx muscle") is a striated muscle ( skeletal muscle ) of triangular, flat shape. He is behind the levator ani , takes its origin from the ischial spine of the ischium and sets the coccyx ( tailbone on). Its muscle fibers are usually fused with the sacrospinal ligament . The muscle is not present in all individuals. The coccyx is innervated by the coccyx nerve .
function
The coccygeus muscle strengthens the effect of the levator ani muscle in the pelvis diaphragm and fixes the coccyx. In addition, it closes the pelvis dorsally together with the piriformis muscle .
