Museo Soumaya

The Museo Soumaya is an art museum in Mexico City founded in 1994 and reopened in 2011 in a new building - a six-story metal structure . Billionaire Carlos Slim had it built in his hometown of Mexico City to display his extensive art collection with around 66,000 exhibits. This is estimated to be worth around $ 700 million. The museum itself cost about $ 34 million to build. The name of the museum can be traced back to Slims' wife, Soumaya Domit, who died in 1999.

Scope of exhibitions

In the museum, the works of Mexican and European artists are shown in a permanent exhibition. These include pictures by the French impressionists Camille Pissarro , Claude Monet , Edgar Degas and Pierre-Auguste Renoir . The museum owns the portrait of a woman with a maroon hat by Édouard Manet . Other works include, for example, Paul Cézanne , Paul Signac , Vincent van Gogh , Pablo Picasso , Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí . It is also known for the exhibition of the 380 Rodin's sculptures - one of the world's most extensive collections of sculptures by this French sculptor.
