Museum tobacco store
The tobacco store is a municipal museum of the city of Nordhausen in Thuringia and deals with the historical and cultural development of the city.
history
The tobacco store museum is located in a tobacco barn built in 1712 in half-timbered style , which was used in the 19th and early 20th centuries by the Walther & Sevin tobacco and cigar factory as a tobacco store. In 1994, extensive renovation work was carried out to make it the present day museum in the old building.
The economic roots of Nordhausen are shown on 1,000 m². The most important industries and their history, such as grain distillery , chewing tobacco production and mechanical engineering, are presented here. There are also traditional crafts such as blueprint production , furriers , tailors , shoemakers and bakers . A historic cinema is also operated.
Also on display are archaeological exhibits, which were found in different excavations in and around Nordhausen.
