The Museum of the History of Poland (Muzeum Historii Polski) is a museum in Warsaw founded in 2006 . The future exhibition building of the museum is currently being built on the grounds of the Warsaw Citadel .

history

On May 2, 2006, the founding charter of the museum was signed by the Polish Minister of Culture Kazimierz Michał Ujazdowski and the Prime Minister of the country, Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz , in the Royal Castle in Warsaw . Until the completion of the museum building, the seat of the museum will be in Ulica Mokotowska 33/35 . When the museum was founded, a suitable location for a new museum building was sought. The first choice was a place near the Ujazdów Palace in Łazienki Park , for which the museum announced an architecture competition in 2009, which the architecture firm Paczowski et Fritsch from Luxembourg won. In 2010 the project was stopped for financial reasons. The establishment of the museum in the Warsaw Citadel began in 2015 and a corresponding contract was signed in January 2016 in the presence of the Minister of Culture Piotr Gliński . WXCA was hired as the architect under Szczepan Wroński, who had already won the tender for the Museum of the Polish Army in 2009. In May 2018 it was announced that Budimex would be the general contractor to build the museum.

In the Warsaw Citadel, the museum will be surrounded by the new building constructed at the same time for the Museum of the Polish Army , the Katyn Museum and the Xth Pavilion . The total area of the museum will be around 44,000 square meters.

The aim of the museum's scientific activity is to initiate debates and interdisciplinary research on Polish history. To this end, scientific seminars and conferences are organized, research work and source editions are published, and international research collaborations are established.
